Japanese tattoos
are called irezumi.

The Japanese people had thought of using tattoos for both

purposes, decorative and spiritual practice takes root from the

Jomon period (10000 BC).
At the beginning of the Meiji period

the Japanese government, wanted to protect their image and make

a good impression on the West, outlawed tattoos in fact said,

then took the irezumi connotations of "crime".

However, foreigners who came to Japan were fascinated by the

painstaking skill of the tattoo artists irezumi to the point

that the tradition continued in secret for oral transmission.

Although in Japan the tattoo irezumi was legalized by the

occupation forces in 1945, has unfortunately kept the image of

crime.

In traditional Japanese Irezumi tattoos are often associated with

the notorious Japanese mafia known as "Yakuza". Many places in

Japan, such as public baths, spas, fitness centers still have the

ban mandatory for customers with tattoos, remember that if you

go to Japan! In Japan the traditional irezumi is still done by an

experienced tattoo artist craftsman, but it is a painful process

that takes time and is expensive.
A typical traditional irezumi

that covers the body (tattoos covering his arms, back, chest and

upper legs, but leaving a space at the center of the tattooed

body) can take 1-5 years with an average of once per weeks to

complete and a cost of 25,000 euros.

The most classic traditional Japanese tattoo designs are:

The Dragons.

The cherry blossoms, a symbol of transcendence and

evanescence of human life Fudomyo-O.

the Japanese version of the Buddhist deities Acalanatha,

furious version of the Buddha Kara-Jishi.

The Koi mythological animal, symbol of perseverance and courage
